Patty Wooten RN is a successful nurse, a renowned international speaker, Past President of the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor, and an hilarious clown. With an extensive background in critical care, hospice, and home health, Patty set forth to express her love of nursing through the development of two fascinating clown characters; bold and bawdy Nancy Nurse and her whimsical, compassionate counterpart, Nurse Kindheart. If humor is her interest, family is her passion! Shirley has written two books on humor in the family, as well as parent education curriculae on humor in the family and on substance abuse prevention. She’s an adjunct faculty of the Family Information Services, and conducts trainings and delivers presentations to parent and parent education audiences, nationwide. She’s the former Parent Education Director with the Nebraska Council to Prevent Alcohol and Drug Abuse.

Dr. Pat Raymond takes the personnel hemorrhage in medicine seriously, and herself lightly. Formerly fried by compassion fatigue, and a frankly cranky caregiver, she now teaches docs and nurses to play nicely in our shared medical playground. She hosts NPR’s Housecalls, challenging patients to step up and accept responsibility for their own health.

Contributing Editor-Deb Gauldin, RN
Deb was turned down after applying for the U.S. Peace Corps at age 10, and tried to join the NAACP at 13. Deb moved through the ranks of health care one step and conviction at a time. At age 12 she was as a “Sunshine” geriatric volunteer. She advanced from the Junior Red Cross, to hospital Candystriper, to Nurses Aide, to Licensed Practical Nurse, to Registered Nurse. Deb also studied music, art, and mass communication at California State University. She has been part of a team piloting therapeutic humor, pet therapy, and other complimentary therapies, and is currently serving on the board of the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor. Deb served hard time on the PTA. Since creating her professional speaking and entertaining business in 1993, Deb has delighted hundreds of audiences from Fargo to New Zealand. Her recordings of “Hormone Affirming Music and Humor” are enjoyed and used in educational settings in at least six countries, and were featured on the National Public Radio Program, The Infinite Mind.
